Workshop on Rakhi Designing

The PG Department of Fashion Designing of PCM S.D. College
for Women, Jalandhar, under the guidance of the IIC, organized a workshop on
handmade rakhi-making techniques. The resource person for the event was Ms.
Ritu Lal, a professional expert in art and crafts.
On behalf of the management and the Principal, the IIC and
the Department of Fashion Designing extended a warm welcome to Ms. Ritu Lal
with a planter. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from B.Sc. Fashion
Designing students, who engaged in hands-on learning as Ms. Ritu Lal
demonstrated the creation of beautiful rakhis using various techniques and
materials such as clay, colors, threads, beads, and resin art kits. The
students actively applied the techniques taught during the workshop, showcasing
their creativity and skill.
President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri
Vinod Dada, other esteemed members of the management committee and the worthy
Principal Prof. (Dr. )Pooja Prashar commended the department for organizing
such a timely and valuable workshop. Mrs. Sunita Bhalla, Head of the Department
and other faculty members were also present at the event.

Two- day Rakhi Exhibition Cum Sale

The P.G. Department of Fashion Designing at PCM S.D. College for Women, under the aegis of the Incubation Cell, successfully organized a vibrant Two-Day Rakhi Exhibition Cum Sale. Students from B.Sc., B.Voc., and M.Sc. Fashion Designing courses showcased their creativity by crafting exquisite Rakhis using various modern techniques, including beadwork, resin art, thread work, clay, and quilling.
The exhibition was graced by the presence of Senior Vice
President Shri Vinod Dada and College Principal, Prof. Dr. Pooja Prashar, who
not only encouraged the students but also commended their innovative designs.
The students’ efforts were richly rewarded, with many earning substantial
amounts through the sale of their handmade Rakhis.
The Rakhi Exhibition Cum Sale was also held in the PCM S.D.
Collegiate Block, reflecting the college’s commitment to nurturing creativity
and entrepreneurial skills among its students.Mrs. Sunita Bhalla, Head of the
Fashion Designing Department, along with other faculty members, was present to
support the students throughout the event.
President Shri Naresh Bhudia, Senior Vice President Shri
Vinod Dada, and other esteemed members of the management committee and the
worthy Principal, extended their heartfelt congratulations to the department for
organizing such a successful event.

Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship Digital Marketing
essentials for new Business
The Department of Fashion Designing at PCM S.D. College for
Women, Jalandhar, under the guidance of the Institution’s Innovation Council
(IIC), organized an insightful Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship – Digital
Marketing Essentials for New Business.
The session was led by a fashion
designer Mrs. Damini, who provided valuable insights into the role of digital
marketing in launching and growing a successful fashion business. Mrs. Damini
shared her personal experiences of establishing a career in the fashion industry,
emphasizing perseverance and creativity. The session covered essential topics
such as market research, customer engagement, branding, and digital marketing
for fashion entrepreneurs.

Two day workshop on Salvage of Waste Fabric with surface
ornamentation
The Department of Fashion Designing, under the Institution’s
Innovation Council (IIC) of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully
organized a two-day entrepreneurial workshop on the Salvage of Waste Fabric
with Surface Ornamentation.
The workshop was designed to promote sustainable
fashion, entrepreneurship, and creativity among students by encouraging them to
repurpose waste fabric into innovative products with decorative embellishments.
This workshop instilled an entrepreneurial mindset among students by utilizing
waste fabric efficiently. By incorporating various surface ornamentation
techniques, students learned how to transform discarded materials into
marketable fashion and home décor items, thereby fostering sustainable business
practices. Students from the FD department participated in this workshop with
an interest in it. Mrs. Ritu Lal and Mr. Vikas Vohra from Pidilite Company were
the experts of the workshop, specializing in demonstrated textile recycling and
surface ornamentation techniques, sustainable fashion and entrepreneurship.
They demonstrated embroidery, applique work, patchwork, block printing, and
beadwork. Hands-on practice sessions where students created samples using waste
fabric.

Guest lecture on “Entrepreneurship in Textile Industries
under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme
The Department of
Fashion Designing, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council
(IIC) of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an insightful guest
lecture on “Entrepreneurship in Textile Industries under the PM Vishwakarma
Scheme.”
The session aimed to educate students about entrepreneurial
opportunities in the textile industry and promote the benefits of the PM Vishwakarma
Scheme. This lecture was to introduce students to various entrepreneurial
avenues in the textile sector and highlight the government initiatives
available for budding entrepreneurs. The session focused on fostering
innovation, skill development, and financial assistance under the PM
Vishwakarma Scheme.
The session
commenced with a warm welcome to the guest speaker Mr. Narinder Singh, an
expert in textile entrepreneurship. He elaborated on the scope and potential of
the textile industry in India, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and
indigenous crafts.

A three-day workshop on Fashion entrepreneurship: A Hands-on
Three-day Workshop for Budding Designers for the students of Govt. Girls Senior
Secondary School, Nehru Garden, Jalandhar
The Department of Fashion Designing at PCM SD College for
Women, Jalandhar, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council
(IIC), organized a three-day workshop titled Fashion Entrepreneurship: A
Hands-on Workshop for Budding Designers for the students of Govt. Girls Senior
Secondary School, Nehru Garden, Jalandhar from 25th-27 November 2024.
The
workshop aimed to equip aspiring fashion designers with the necessary skills to
merge creativity with entrepreneurship, fostering innovation in the fashion
industry. Students of Govt Girls Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden,
attended the workshop. The first day of the workshop focused on introducing
participants to the concept of Fashion preneurship—a blend of fashion and
entrepreneurship. Teachers from the Fashion Design provided insights into
starting a fashion business, identifying market trends, and understanding
customer demands. The second day emphasized hands-on learning, where
participants engaged in designing and developing their fashion pieces,
sketching and conceptualizing fashion collections, selecting sustainable
fabrics and materials, and Pattern making and garment construction techniques.
Participants also worked on their mini-collections, applying the concepts
learned during the session. The final day of the workshop was dedicated to the
business and marketing aspects of fashion. The Fashionpreneurship Workshop
successfully bridged the gap between creativity and business acumen in the
fashion industry. Participants gained valuable knowledge and hands-on
experience, enabling them to explore fashion entrepreneurship as a viable
career path. The event emphasized the importance of sustainability, innovation,
and digital marketing in today’s competitive market.

"One Day workshop on Shaping Creativity”
The Department of Fashion Designing, under the guidance of
the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of PCM SD College for Women,
Jalandhar, organized a creative and skill-enhancing workshop titled " One
Day workshop on Shaping Creativity."
The session was conducted by Mrs.
Ritu Lal, a talented and experienced designer known for her innovative approach
to design and craft. The workshop aimed to nurture creativity and innovative
thinking among students by introducing them to the versatile art of clay designing.
Mrs. Ritu Lal guided participants through various techniques and methods of
working with clay, emphasizing its use in fashion accessories, decorative
items, and design prototypes.

Saree with a Twist: Innovative Saree Draping
The Department of Fashion Designing of PCM S.D. College for
Women, Jalandhar, under the aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council
(IIC), organized an engaging and creative workshop titled "Saree with a
Twist: Innovative Saree Draping".
The workshop aimed to explore
contemporary and creative approaches to traditional saree draping, showcasing
how innovation can be blended with cultural attire to create stylish and modern
looks. Students were introduced to a variety of unconventional draping techniques
that emphasized versatility, elegance, and comfort, encouraging them to view
fashion through a lens of innovation and adaptability.

Workshop on ‘Empowering Through Craft’ organised for
Specially-Abled Students
PG Department of Fashion Designing organised a heartwarming
workshop titled ‘Empowering Through Craft’ for deaf students of Bhagat Puran
Singh School, Amritsar. The workshop focuses on handmade jewellery-making
skills.
The activity aimed to promote creativity, confidence, and self-reliance
among specially-abled participants through hands-on learning and artistic
expression. Students were guided step-by-step in creating beautiful jewellery
pieces using simple materials. The session fostered inclusivity and encouraged
communication through visual cues and gestures.

An Exhibition by Young Entrepreneurs: Crafting Success in
Food, Beauty & Jewellery
The Department of Home Science, Fashion Designing, and
Cosmetology, under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of PCM S.D.
College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an Exhibition by Young Entrepreneurs:
Crafting Success in Food, Beauty & Jewellery.
The event aimed to provide a
platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial talents and innovative
business ideas in food, beauty, and jewellry. The exhibition featured a variety
of creative stalls where budding entrepreneurs displayed their handcrafted
products, homemade delicacies, beauty essentials, and intricately designed
jewellery.

Best out of waste stall
Under Earn while you learn Scheme, The PG Department of
Fashion Designing of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar. Department
organised an exhibition cum sale on 'Best out of waste' under the able tutelage
of our reverent Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Pooja Prashar at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium.
Students of Fashion Designing participated in all exuberance of Republic Day.

Educational cum Religious trip
Under the guidance of IQAC, PG Department of Fashion
Designing and PG Department of Computer Science and IT organised educational
cum religious trip to Mata Naina Devi and Sri Anandpur Sahib on 8 February
2025. 50 students were part of this trip.
A total of 50 students participated in
this enriching experience, which provided them with valuable cultural insights
and fostered a sense of unity and harmony among them.

Guest lecture on Achieving problem solution Fit &
product market fit
The Department of
Fashion Designing, under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of PCM SD
College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an insightful guest lecture on the
topic “Achieving Problem-Solution Fit & Product-Market Fit”.
The session
was graced by Mrs. Savita Rani, an experienced resource person known for her
expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation. The objective of the lecture was
to encourage and guide students on how to identify real-world problems, develop
effective solutions, and align their offerings with market needs — essential
steps towards establishing a successful startup. The session emphasized the
concepts of Problem-Solution Fit, which focuses on ensuring that the product or
service effectively solves a genuine problem faced by potential customers, and
Product-Market Fit, which is achieved when the product satisfies the demands of
the target market.

Placement drive
The event witnessed an impressive turnout, with a good many
students actively participating in the placement drive, marking it as a
resounding success. Their active participation and commendable performance in
interviews were a testament to the college’s academic rigor, skill-oriented
approach, and commitment to holistic development. The event was held in
collaboration with District Bureau of Employment and Entreprises, Jalandhar.
President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri
Vinod Dada, the honourable members of the managing committee, and the worthy
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar appreciated the endeavours of the Placement
Cell for providing students with such fruitful job opportunities. They
emphasized the institution’s vision of nurturing talent, fostering
industry-academia collaborations, and empowering students to excel in their
professional journeys.
20th & 21st March
A Workshop on Skill Development Using Recycled Materials
PG Department of Fashion Designing organised a creative and
skill-enhancing workshop on the theme ‘Skill Development Using Recycled
Materials’. The workshop aimed to train students with practical knowledge on
utilizing waste and discarded materials to create innovative fashion and
lifestyle products, thereby promoting sustainability in design practices.
Students were trained in techniques such as fabric weaving from scraps,
creating accessories from plastic and paper waste, and redesigning old garments
into trendy new outfits. The resource person highlighted the importance of
reducing textile waste and encouraged students to incorporate eco-conscious
methods in their design process.

A WORKSHOP ON Startup Ventures in Sustainable Dress
Designing: Skill Meets Innovation
PG Department of Fashion Designing organised a workshop on
‘Startup Ventures in Sustainable Dress Designing: Skill Meets Innovation’ to
promote eco-friendly entrepreneurship among students.
The session focused on
combining creative skills with sustainable practices to build successful
fashion startups. Students learned about using different materials, ethical
production methods, and innovative branding strategies. The workshop inspired
participants to develop green business ideas and highlighted the importance of
sustainability in the fashion industry.

Fashion show ‘Adviteeya-2025’
PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated its Golden
Jubilee with a vibrant cultural evening titled ‘A Golden Legacy: Roshanzh’. The
event was a grand showcase of music, dance, and fashion, marking the
institution’s rich legacy. Chief Guest Mrs. Gurjot Kaur, Senior Executive of
Ajit Group of Publications, applauded the college’s role in empowering women
through education. The evening featured enthralling performances, including a
Sufi song, a Radha-Krishna dance, and a dynamic orchestra.
The highlight of the event was the fashion show
‘Adviteeya-2025’, judged by esteemed personalities from the fashion and
business world. Themed rounds – Traditional, Fusion, Western, and Kids –
brought colour and creativity to the ramp.
A documentary on the college’s journey was also released,
and the presence of alumnae, former teachers, and school principals added to
the grandeur. The event concluded with the distribution of mementos and a vote
of thanks by D.K. Joshi, Member, and Governing Body.

Trash to Treasurer
PG Department of Fashion Designing conducted an innovative
activity titled ‘Trash to Treasurer’ aimed at encouraging sustainable practices
among students.
The activity focused on promoting the concept of upcycling
waste materials into fashionable and functional products, emphasizing the idea
of turning "trash" into "treasure." During the session,
students showcased their creativity by using reusable materials. The activity
witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of both undergraduate and
postgraduate streams, who learned the value of innovation, responsibility, and
sustainability.

International Webinar on ‘Sustainable Entrepreneurship: A
global perspective’
PG Department of Fashion Designing organised International
Webinar on topic ‘Sustainable Entrepreneurship: A global perspective’. The
resource person of the session was Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Manager in Fashion
studio, Surrey, Canada. She guided the participants regarding fashion business
ideas focusing on creating profit with ethical and environmental
responsibility, addressing societal needs and promoting long-term
sustainability.
Moreover, she addressed
about the stores running in Canada that are promoting sustainable fashion
businesses. She also encouraged the final year students to adopt sustainable
practices like recycling when running their fashion studios. Students of all
the streams of fashion designing joined the webinar and learned interesting
things about the topic.

National Webinar on ‘Marketing Strategies For Innovative
Handmade Jewellery’
PG Department of Fashion Designing in collaboration with IIC
and Incubation Cell of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised National
Webinar on topic ‘Marketing Strategies For Innovative Handmade Jewellery’.
The
resource person of the session was Ms. Manisha Dhiman, founder of Kalakari.
Kalakari is a brand creating handmade jewellery using waste and recycled papers
and fabrics. She guided the participants regarding various marketing strategies
in special reference to exhibitions and freelancing. Moreover, she addressed
about the brand building process which includes creating a logo and promoting
brand identity. The students engaged with the speaker and gained valuable
insights into various strategies to boost their clientele. Students of all the
streams of fashion designing joined the webinar and learned interesting things
about the topic.
22nd April 2025
Industrial visit
PG Department of Fashion Designing organized an Industrial
visit for the students to AG’s International, Jalandhar. The main aim of the
visit was to promote practical knowledge of Sportswear manufacturing units of
the industry.
Students of B.Sc Semester II, B.Voc Fashion Designing Semester
IV, UG Diploma Semester II, M.Sc. Semester II and PG Diploma Semester II
visited various units of the industry. The industry is an integrated Textile
industry catering domestic as well as international home furnishing needs. The
information regarding the product and its manufacturing process from the stage
of raw material to the stage of finished products was given to the students.
The visit was a great learning experience for the students
which inculcated practical insights about their curriculum. More than thirty
students benefited from this educational visit and this will help them get
industrial jobs in their career. President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice
President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar commended the efforts of the department for
organizing this educative activity.
